Architects to share insights on creating safer schools at SXSW EDU

Members of the media can attend the “Safer Schools Through Design” forum at 11 a.m. on March 4. 


Austin, Texas – Feb. 13, 2019 –  As communities across the country debate how to create safer schools, a policy forum led by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) at SXSW EDU on Monday, March 4 will provide answers on the issue through better school design.

For decades, architects have worked with communities across the country to design safer schools while creating inspiring learning environments.

As part of the “Safer Schools Through Design” panel, AIA and its members will explore how design strategies can help protect students and the public policies that are needed to support safer schools.

The discussion will include lead architect for the new Sandy Hook Elementary School, Jay Brotman, AIA; school design expert Karina Ruiz, AIA; AIA Chief Lobbyist Jim Brewer; and Condé

Nast journalist Stayton Bonner.
