Keysight Enables OnePlus to Demonstrate First 5G Smartphone Connection in Leading UK Mobile Operator Lab

Demonstration uses Keysight’s 5G network emulation solutions to showcase flagship 5G device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 22, 2019 — Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that helps enterprises, service providers and governments accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, announced the first successful demonstration of a 5G data connection using a 5G smartphone in a leading UK mobile operator’s lab. The connection was established using Keysight’s 5G network emulation solutions and OnePlus’ flagship 5G smartphone, powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855 Mobile Platform with Snapdragon X50 5G modem and antenna modules with integrated radio frequency (RF) transceiver, RF front-end and antenna elements.

The demonstration enabled OnePlus, a global mobile technology company, to secure a key partnership with the UK mobile operator, paving the way for the first commercial 5G smartphone release on the operator’s network in the United Kingdom later this year. The 5G smartphone from OnePlus delivers superior experiences in areas such as imaging, audio, and gaming as a result of Qualcomm Technologies’ new flagship mobile platform, which supports multi-gigabit 5G, industry-leading artificial intelligence (AI), and immersive extended reality (XR).

“We are excited to be working closely with OnePlus to bring their first 5G smartphone to market,” said Kailash Narayanan, vice president of Keysight’s wireless test group. “Early 5G collaborations across the wireless industry are enabling Keysight to deliver differentiated 5G solutions, thereby accelerating plans of global mobile operators to deploy 5G networks.”

Keysight’s 5G network emulation solution leverages Keysight’s UXM 5G Wireless Test Platform to support device validation across protocol, radio frequency (RF), and radio resource management (RRM) in both sub-6GHz and mmWave spectrum. The connected mobile device ecosystem around the world, consisting of chipset manufacturers, device OEMs and mobile operators, use Keysight’s 5G network emulation solutions to accelerate validation of key 5G New Radio (NR) capabilities.

“Keysight’s leading 5G solutions have already played an instrumental role in enabling us to achieve key industry milestones, starting with the world’s first 5G Tweet in October of last year,” said Carl Pei, Co-founder of OnePlus. “Our collaboration with Keysight has facilitated our ability to confidently validate new designs and ensure they comply with rapidly evolving 5G NR standards.”
