UltraSoC strengthens data science and machine learning team with appointment of new VP Software Development

26 March 2019 -- UltraSoC has announced the appointment of Andy Penrose as its new VP of Software Development. Penrose’s appointment comes as UltraSoC expands the range and capabilities of its software and semiconductor IP for embedded analytics, encompassing both in-lab and in-life requirements. Penrose brings 20 years experience of software engineering, the majority of which leading software teams, most recently at Cadence. Penrose also brings particular specialisms in data science and machine learning.

As part of a 16 year journey, Penrose helped develop world leading EDA technology at Azuro. After its acquisition by Cadence he led integration work to bring that technology to a much wider audience.

UltraSoC recently launched  UltraDevelop 2, a new integrated development environment (IDE) with data science and machine learning features designed to help developers maximize the value of the rich datasets gathered via UltraSoC’s on-chip monitoring and analytics hardware. UltraDevelop 2 gives developers quick and easy access to utilize UltraSoC IP in designs that have virtually unlimited configurations of processors and custom logic, including heterogeneous multicore architectures. Penrose will lead the UltraSoC team in continuing its development, supporting the growing application of the company’s technology in the most demanding applications including at-scale / high performance computing, data storage, security and functional safety, and AI/ML chip development.

Andy Penrose commented: “I’m excited at the opportunities presented by UltraSoC’s technology and the application areas where it’s clear to see that embedded analytics and monitoring capabilities are already making a significant difference to UltraSoC customers and partners. There is a strong foundation of software and a strong customer base, and I’m looking forward to working with the team and customers to further develop this.”

CEO Rupert Baines added, “We were delighted when Andy agreed to join us: His incredible bank of knowledge combined with impressive team leadership track record made him an obvious choice for this strategically important role. Andy also brings an intimate understanding of working within Cadence, one of UltraSoC’s strategic partners.”

Penrose holds a PhD in Computer Science from University of Cambridge. He will be based in the company’s Cambridge (UK) office.
