New Opening of the Tompkins Center for History and Culture

ITHACA, N.Y., May 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Tessellate Studio, a business specializing in innovative architectural, exhibit, and experiential design, is excited to announce the new opening of The Tompkins Center for History and Culture this past weekend in Ithaca, NY. It will be the first of its kind in providing in-depth cultural knowledge of Tompkins County's heritage and global impact. Ithaca Mayor, Svante Myrick, said, "by remembering our history we can do better to protect people across lines of class, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, and sexuality moving forward." With 20 speakers and hundreds of visitors kick-starting the new opening, The Tompkins Center for History and Culture is now home to 12 partners, including the History Center in Tompkins County, exemplifying the community working and coming together.

The History Center in Tompkins County is a must-see cultural destination, delivering vibrant exhibits on local and regional history and on Tompkins County's impact on the world. The exhibit hall was redesigned by Tessellate to create interactive learning experiences that allow the public to explore and be fully immersed in Tompkins' history and culture through multimedia exhibits.

"Working with Tessellate on the new exhibit space for the new center was a gratifying experience; we now have a versatile foundation for engaging with the public. The Content Management system they designed keeps our interactive content and media fresh and up to date," - Rod Howe, Executive Director, The History Center in Tompkins County, Ithaca, NY

Tessellate is overjoyed to see the success of our collaboration with The History Center in Tompkins County come to life. It is here that visitors explore the region's human history – indigenous and colonial. In the center of the exhibit hall, the reconstructed Tommy plane that made it's centennial flight last fall offered a tribute to Ithaca's industrial past and enterprising present. Before entering the renovated bank vault converted into timeline tunnel, visitors are introduced to the Gayogo̱hó:nÇ« (Cayuga) Nation culture through a circular animation. This animation was created by Tessellate in collaboration with members of the Gayogo̱hó:nÇ« (Cayuga) Nation. This abstracted animation spans the past, present, and future of the Gayogo̱hó:nÇ« in Tompkins County.
