August 13, 2019 (Reston, VA) – Dun & Bradstreet Government Solutions today announced that Yaneev Golombek, a Ph.D. candidate in Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado, was awarded the 2019 Dun & Bradstreet Geospatial Data Science Scholarship. Golombek will receive the $15,000 scholarship to pursue his research in 3D geospatial/analytical applications to support transportation.
“We are pleased to partner with the U. S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation in support of emerging talent like Yaneev,” said Tim Solms, Dun & Bradstreet’s General Manager, Government Solutions. “Many of our government clients rely on geospatial intelligence to fulfill their diversified mission objectives, and we’re proud to play a part in accelerating innovation in the technology that enables government to do its job more effectively and efficiently.”
Yaneev’s research provides transportation and urban design researchers objective mapping tools to better measure perceptual qualities of built environments and create objective 3D descriptive statistic models to apply toward transportation safety outcomes. This research will lead to advancements in the way our transportation networks will be used to protect and move resources and deepen our objective understanding of the role transportation infrastructure plays in government functions such as national security, supporting the warfighter in urban settings, and ensuring the protection of the most critical public infrastructure in the event of natural disasters.
“It is a great honor to be the first ever recipient of the USGIF Dun & Bradstreet Geospatial Data Science Scholarship, and receive its support toward my research goals which enhance crucial technological understanding,” said Yaneev Golombek. “Geospatial and remote sensing technologies have gone through significant advancements over the last couple of decades. A big challenge is understanding how to channel these advancements toward practical applications that improve society, specifically, how we gather and interpret spatial information to improve safety, security and efficiency.”
The Dun & Bradstreet scholarship, given in partnership with the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) supports a graduate student in data science who is focused on solving data-intensive, large-scale, location-based problems using engineering, computer science, math, and/or spatial science to advance geospatial data science understanding and capabilities.
“As the saying goes, ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it.’ USGIF and its member organizations are addressing an uncertain future by supporting those who will soon join the GEOINT workforce,” said Dr. Camelia Kantor, USGIF’s Vice President of Academic Affairs.
