Demco Manufacturing Face Shields for Medical Workers

MADISON, Wis., April 16, 2020 — (PRNewswire) — Leading library and educational supplier  Demco, Inc., announced today that its first shipment of medical face shields has been sent to Wisconsin-area hospitals and ambulance services.

After learning of the national shortage, the Wisconsin-based company retooled one of its machines to manufacture the much-needed face shields for medical workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The machine, which normally stamps out library shelf markers, is able to produce 25,000 plastic replacement shields each week for headband brackets commonly used in the medical field. The Demco team is also able to produce 1,000 fully assembled face shields with headbands per week. According to Brendan Wall, Director of Wall Family Enterprise, Demco's parent company, the plan is to fulfill as many requests as possible.

"Supporting our community is one of Demco's core values," said Wall. "With most schools and libraries closed to the public, we're grateful to be able to use our capabilities to help healthcare workers who are risking their lives every day to keep us safe."

To obtain design and safety specifications and quickly ramp up production, Demco collaborated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Maker space, which connects organizations in need of shields with those making them.

"I'm proud of the way our coworkers, our suppliers and the medical community have pulled together to take this from an idea to reality in a few short weeks," said Chad Fryer, Director of Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement for Demco.
