AFWERX Announces Orbit Logic Among Top Teams Selected to Exhibit at EngageSpace

(September 29-30) The Premier Event for the Space Industry

GREENBELT, MD (September 28th, 2020) – AFWERX, the catalyst for fostering innovation within the U.S. Air Force, announced Orbit Logic as one of the 178 top participating teams with four solutions selected for The AFWERX Space Challenge initiative to exhibit at EngageSpace, a virtual two-day event on September 29-30.

The AFWERX Space Challenge initiative is made up of four challenges targeted at creating integrated space operations leveraging the best in technology while maintaining security, being resilient and increasing agility. Four challenges were run concurrently focused on separate topics. Orbit Logic had solutions chosen in the Persistent ISR, DoD Commercial Space Partnerships, and Delivery and Space Asset Resiliency topic categories.

“The solutions submitted for these space challenges represent the bleeding edge of space innovation,” stated Brennan Townley, AFWERX Challenge Collaboration Lead. “We’re excited to highlight these innovators and connect them with opportunities across the Space ecosystem.”

The Space Asset Resiliency Challenge strives to increase the longevity of our space assets by increasing their durability against the unique space environment and enemy threats. Orbit Logic had two solutions chosen in this category - SaFIRE-GEMS: Resilient Satellite Awareness and Autonomous Self-Protection and Fault Learning Agent for Prediction, Protection and Early Response (FLAPPER). SaFIRE-GEMS allows satellites to protect themselves using onboard autonomy that acts on a local Space Situational Awareness picture developed by the satellite itself – fusing local and available remote data sources to identify emerging conditions impacting satellite operations and responding to them in real-time. The FLAPPER system will utilize spacecraft telemetry to train the machine learning models to detect faults and link the corresponding responses based on novel telemetry limits, value trends and anomalous behavior.

Orbit Logic’s Heimdall system was chosen for the persistent ISR Challenge. The Persistent ISR Challenge strives to bring together the existing and future technology solutions to create a comprehensive Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) system that spans the globe. Orbit Logic's Heimdall solution is a web-based, dynamic Space Situational Awareness (SSA) sensor planning tool. Heimdall provides a friendly, multi-user experience that greatly improves performance over manual observation tasking to create a validated, deconflicted, optimized Integrated Sensor Support Plan (ISSP) for both ground-to-space and space-to-space sensor tasking.

Orbit Logic’s SpyMeSat Mobile App is competing in the DoD Commercial Space Partnerships Challenge. The DoD Commercial Space Partnerships Challenge strives to identify cutting-edge commercial satellite technology and uncover new payload ideas, designs, and prototypes to expand the DoD's capabilities. SpyMeSat is a mobile app and associated server for improved satellite imagery access to the warfighter. SpyMeSat allows users in the field to receive imaging satellite overflight and imaging opportunity notifications for friendly, adversarial, and neutral imaging satellites, and provides on-demand mobile access to available commercial and DoD imagery archives.

“We are excited to have four solutions selected for the AFWERX Challenge” said Alex Herz, president of Orbit Logic. “These solutions offer the government innovative technical solutions to help advance the Air Force mission, and showcase some of the best software we have developed for web, mobile, and flight platforms.”

The EngageSpace event will feature highly engaging opportunities to connect, educate and innovate with other like-minded attendees, industry leaders, individual innovators, academia, investors, as well as military and government leaders. The entire event is designed to transform and accelerate the industry, and enable government buyers to pursue the most promising innovative solutions to the most pressing and threatening Space scenarios.
