The programme for GEO Business 2021 has been revealed

GEO Business, the UK’s largest geospatial event, has revealed the much-anticipated speaker line up for this year’s show, which takes place on 24-25 November at ExCeL London.

Visitors can choose from over 120 free-to-attend sessions of exclusive, CPD-accredited content – ranging from talks to interactive demos and panel discussions – delivered by 250+ expert speakers. The programme spans across seven themed theatres, which are all brand new to GEO Business this year. They include the Main Stage, Environment & Sustainability Stage, Future of the Profession Theatre, GIS & Data Hub, In Practice Theatre, Innovation Stage and Tech Stage.

Sessions for the Main Stage are coming soon. In the meantime, here’s a preview of some of the unmissable content to see at this year’s show:

  Environment & Sustainability Stage

Geospatial innovation has a key role to play in helping us measure, understand and find solutions to the impacts of climate change. The Environment & Sustainability Stage at GEO Business takes this as its theme, with a selection of talks looking at how geospatial technology can help us achieve net zero and adapt to the consequences of global warming.

Some programme highlights include: Edinburgh: A green blue network masterplan with Elspeth McIntyre, Senior Geospatial Consultant, Atkins; The critical role of buildings in delivering Net Zero with Beverley Tyrrell, Senior Account Manager, Geomni UK; and Insights from Space for Climate Monitoring & Adaptation with Aravind Ravichandran, Director of Space Strategy, Tomorrow.io.

  Future of the Profession Theatre

The Future of the Profession Theatre, sponsored by Topcon, focuses on a key theme for the programme at GEO Business this year. Seminars at the theatre address diversity and inclusion within the geospatial workforce, how to enhance geospatial capabilities and create the profession for the future.

Speakers include Anne Allen, Chief Executive Officer, Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), who will look at how we can create inclusivity in the geospatial profession in her session An inclusive profession? and Simon Navin, Geospatial Service Lead, Jacobs, who will discuss geospatial careers in What do I want to be when I grow up? How Jacobs are putting geospatial careers on the map. Plus, Helen Gilmartin, Business Partner Strategy and Marketing UK, Ireland and Benelux, Hexagon; Elaine Ball, Geospatial Marketer, EBL; Claire Fenwick, Managing Director, Spatial Dimensions; and Ciara Williams, Junior Surveyor, Plowman Craven will come together for a panel discussion about The positive impact of diversity in the geospatial profession.

The programme also covers business transformation and new market opportunities for geospatial technology, including a look at the Earth Observation Data & Services Market: The next decade by Sylvain Drilholle, Consultant, Euroconsult and a seminar on Photogrammetry and future military requirements with Peter Egan, QMSI Construction, British Army (Corps of Royal Engineers).

GIS & Data Hub

The GIS & Data Hub, sponsored by Esri, covers all things geospatial data, including analytics, management and use. Sessions on the theatre explore how we can move to an outcome-based approach rather than looking at surveying as a service and how better insights can be created through data, as well as addressing the important issue of data ethics.

Visitors can attend: Who are the Data Scientists? How Geospatial is pivoting to meet the 4th industrial revolution with Harriet McQuade, Principal Geospatial Consultant, Atkins; and Towards a National Geospatial Standards Set, and a UK SDI with Keiran Millard, Head of Data and Standards, Geospatial Commission and Peter Parslow, Data Standards Lead, Ordnance Survey – plus many more.

  In Practice Theatre

The In Practice Theatre, sponsored by Senceive, focuses on real-life examples and applications of geospatial technology and data in business and industry.

Case studies include a talk from Craig Holt, Monitoring & Tunnelling Solutions Specialist, SCCS Survey about Hinkley Point C – Monitoring the largest construction site in Europe and Towards Automated Tunnel Inspections: Network Rail High Speed Case Study with Noemi Roecklinger, Geospatial Data Scientist, Arup.

Plus, the programme includes instructional sessions looking at the practical application of geospatial tech, such as How to maximise the productivity and accuracy of railway surveying with IMU-enabled Track Measuring Devices with Heiko Barthold, Product Manager Rail, Amberg Technologies and Matt Lock, Rail Sales Manager, Leica Geosystems and Fireside Chat – What really matters in Wireless Sensing with Matt Azzopardi, Product Sales Area Manager for Europe, Worldsensing.

Innovation Stage

The Innovation Stage, sponsored by Leica Geosystems, features talks that demonstrate how geospatial innovation is combining with emerging technologies to revolutionise the way we work and live. Sessions cover different ways of working, new solutions to old challenges, advanced technology or technology newly applied to our profession, research projects and academia.

Programme highlights include: Everything is connected: How autonomous vehicles are transforming our industry with Tommy Wilson, Drone Partnerships Manager, Flock; Look Up – What can space do for the infrastructure sector with Lucy Kennedy, CEO and co-founder, Spottitt Ltd; Concept to Reality – Digitalisation in the modern world with Nicolette Beggache, Reality Capture Technical Specialist & Trainer, Leica Geosystems UK Ltd; Applying Real-time Data Analytics and Digital Twin Technology in Transport Infrastructure with Martine Skaret, Marketing & Growth Lead, Emu Analytics and Richard Vilton, CEO, Emu Analytics; and many more.

These are only a handful of sessions to see at GEO Business this year. To check out the full programme, visit www.GeoBusinessShow.com/Programme-2021.
