AI Chip Innovator MemryX Hires Two Veteran Semiconductor Leaders For Top Engineering and Business Development Roles

New VPs Will Accelerate Product Introduction and Expansion of Customer/Partner Base

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 15, 2022MemryX Inc., a pioneering start-up designing breakthrough silicon for artificial intelligence processing for edge devices, has appointed semiconductor industry veterans Puneet Singh and Roger Peene. Singh will serve as vice president of engineering, while Peene will be vice president of product and business development.

Singh will focus on leading MemryX into volume production in 2023, ensuring robust, reliable, and technology-leading silicon at scale. Peene will focus on product roadmap and technology planning, while scaling the company’s commercial success, particularly in the areas of transportation, industrial and Internet of Things (IoT).

The two new members will join CTO and co-founder Dr. Wei Lu as part of the core MemryX senior team and report to CEO Keith Kressin.

MemryX was co-founded in February 2019 by Lu and Dr. Zhengya Zhang, both professors of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Michigan. The company is developing a radically new in-memory compute architecture for AI applications through a unique approach combines high performance and efficiency with low latency and low power consumption.

Equally important, MemryX’s innovative solution was architected with the customer in mind, offering a software stack for extremely efficient implementation. The company will begin sampling its third-generation design in the second half of 2022.

“Puneet and Roger both have a great deal of experience and success with high volume, technology-leading semiconductor solutions,” Kressin said. “Each will play essential roles in evolving MemryX as we ramp up our business, enter new markets, and engage with more customers.”

Singh brings more than two decades of leadership experience in the semiconductor market, most recently as senior director of technology for Qualcomm. In that role, he spearheaded a number of complex silicon programs and was responsible for several successful product launches with volumes exceeding over 500 million units.

All told, Singh spent nearly a decade at Qualcomm, where he led teams that developed next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon™ technology and forged critical silicon development partnerships. Prior to that, he spent more than 15 years at Intel as a silicon design manager. He holds a degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur and a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Iowa.

“I have spent my career helping introduce breakthrough technology that has reshaped the semiconductor industry,” Singh said. “It’s exciting to join MemryX at a time when it is also poised to reshape the future of semiconductor technology. The future of AI edge computing will apply learnings from the human brain to edge AI, and MemryX is well-positioned to lead the way.”

Peene, whose leadership in the semiconductor market also spans more than two decades, was most recently vice president and GM of datacenter storage within the storage business unit at Micron Technology. His experience extends from marketing and sales to apps engineering, as well as serving as a business unit general manager.

A proven product, sales, and development leader, Peene also served as vice president of marketing for the performance solutions group at PMC-Sierra (now Microchip). Prior to that, he was a director of marketing and sales at Intel. Peene holds a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

“I thrive in highly collaborative and dynamic environments, and very much enjoy accelerating sales and driving P&L growth in global markets,” Peene said. “As MemryX continues to scale, I will exercise my deep silicon product lifecycle knowledge, with a focus on creating a superior customer value proposition and customer experience.”
