Tachyum’s Rob Reiner Presents on HPC/AI Performance at Supercomputing 2022 Event in Dallas

LAS VEGAS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 8, 2022Tachyum today announced that Director of Product Marketing Rob Reiner will be a featured presenter at Supercomputing 2022 (SC22), held November 13-18 in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. Tachyum will also exhibit in booth 330, and demonstrate recent innovations that enhance and accelerate AI processing, unique to Prodigy, the world’s first universal processor.

Reiner’s presentation, “Advances in Processor Architecture Driving HPC/AI Convergence for Next-Generation Exascale Systems,” compares HPC and AI workloads, reviews the trends that are driving AI and HPC convergence for supercomputers, and presents Tachyum’s Prodigy Universal Processor and its revolutionary architecture that unifies the functionality of CPU, GPGPU, and TPU to address the demands of both HPC and AI workloads in a single device without needing costly and power-hungry accelerators.

Next-generation exascale supercomputers are increasingly requiring converged HPC/AI systems, as evidenced by specifications from government, university, and commercial supercomputing labs for future systems, which require AI performance specifications in addition to the traditional specifications for HPC performance.

“HPC and AI workloads are similar in that they are both compute- and memory-intensive, and highly parallel, but they diverge in the level of precision typically required and their utilization of data sparsity,” said Reiner. “SC22 is one of the premier events in our industry, making it the ideal venue to discuss Prodigy’s unique ability to address the demands of both HPC and AI applications with its wide range of data types and cutting-edge sparsity features.”

Reiner’s record of defining, developing and marketing advanced semiconductor and system technologies includes worldwide go-to-market strategies, customer engagements and design wins. He joined Tachyum from Marvell, where he served as director of product marketing and management for the Server Processor Business Unit, and held management positions at Ampere Computing, AppliedMicro, Exar, 3Leaf Systems and PMC-Sierra.

Reiner’s presentation takes place as part of SC22’s Exhibitor Forum on November 15 at 4:30 p.m. CST (2:30 p.m. PST). For registration or more information visit https://sc22.supercomputing.org/.

Prodigy delivers unprecedented data center performance, power, and economics, reducing CAPEX and OPEX significantly. Because of its utility for both high-performance and line-of-business applications, Prodigy-powered data center servers can seamlessly and dynamically switch between workloads, eliminating the need for expensive dedicated AI hardware and dramatically increasing server utilization. Tachyum's Prodigy integrates 128 high-performance custom-designed 64-bit compute cores, to deliver up to 4x the performance of the highest-performing x86 processors for cloud workloads, up to 3x that of the highest performing GPU for HPC, and 6x for AI applications.

About Tachyum

Tachyum is transforming AI, HPC, public and private cloud data center markets with its recently launched flagship product. Prodigy, the world’s first Universal Processor, unifies the functionality of a CPU, a GPU, and a TPU into a single processor that delivers industry-leading performance, cost, and power efficiency for both specialty and general-purpose computing. When Prodigy processors are provisioned in a hyperscale data center, they enable all AI, HPC, and general-purpose applications to run on one hardware infrastructure, saving companies billions of dollars per year. With data centers currently consuming over 4% of the planet’s electricity, predicted to be 10% by 2030, the ultra-low power Prodigy Universal Processor is critical to continue doubling worldwide data center capacity every four years. Tachyum, co-founded by Dr. Radoslav Danilak is building the world’s fastest AI supercomputer (128 AI exaflops) in the EU based on Prodigy processors. Tachyum has offices in the United States and Slovakia. For more information, visit https://www.tachyum.com/.
