Intel Introduces Advisory Committee at Intel Foundry Direct Connect

Industry luminaries advise Intel Foundry and provide outside-in perspective.

February 21, 2024 -- During his keynote address today at Intel Foundry Direct Connect, Intel’s inaugural foundry event, CEO Pat Gelsinger introduced four members of the company’s Foundry Advisory Committee. The committee advises Intel on its IDM 2.0 strategy, including creation and development of a thriving systems foundry for the AI era.

The advisory committee includes leaders from the semiconductor industry and academia, two of whom are also members of Intel’s board of directors:

  • Chi-Foon Chan, former Co-CEO of Synopsys; former Microprocessor Group general manager at NEC; director at PDF Solutions.

  • Joe Kaeser, former CEO of Siemens; supervisory board chair at Siemens Energy and Daimler Truck; supervisory board member at Linde; former member of the board of NXP semiconductor; member of the board of trustees at the World Economic Forum.

  • Tsu-Jae King Liu, vice chair of the Foundry Advisory Committee; dean of College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley; Intel director; and director at MaxLinear.

  • Lip-Bu Tan, chair of the Foundry Advisory Committee; former CEO of Cadence Design Systems; chairman of Walden International; and Intel director; director at Credo Technology Group and Schneider Electric.

Intel is committed to delivering industry-leading foundry offerings that help propel fabless chip companies and other chip designers to success in the AI era. Last year, Intel formed the Foundry Advisory Committee to gain a stronger “outside-in” perspective on building a world-class systems foundry and on operating with precision and efficiency to bring Intel Foundry to life.

The committee advises Intel Foundry leadership on producing a world-class, full-service technology, manufacturing and foundry organization that has a margin structure competitive with industry peers, a customer-focused orientation, and efficient operations and business processes. The committee helped Intel implement its new  internal foundry model to ensure foundry agnosticism and drive a continuous customer-first culture across the Intel Foundry organization.
