EUSI: New Satellite Imagery of the Cyclone Chido

European Space Imaging (EUSI) partner, Maxar collected new satellite imagery yesterday (16 December) of the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Chido that devastated the French territory of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean.  The imagery shows catastrophic damage across the city of Mamoudzou and along the eastern coast of the island. Similar devastation is also seen on the nearby island of Pamandzi. Across both islands, thousands of houses, buildings, and critical infrastructure have been destroyed while many others structures have been significantly damaged and are missing roofs. Damaged and capsized boats litter the coastal sections of the islands and many trees have been toppled by the extreme winds of the storm. At the Dzaoudzi-Pamandzi International Airport, several aircraft hangars have sustained wind damage, and some are destroyed. In the link provided below, you can download a gallery of our images that show the area before and after the cyclone. Please let us know if you have any questions about the material.
