City of Virginia Beach Selects MapText’s Label-EZ Text Placement Software

October 17, 2006 -- The Center for GIS (CGIS) at the City of Virginia Beach (VA) has successfully integrated Label-EZ, MapText’s automatic text placement software, into its workflow.

CGIS manages the core GIS operations and spatial information needs of the city. It is responsible - on a daily basis - for generating accurate and up-to-date tax maps, general composite maps, street atlas, and maps for 911 first responders in GeoMedia, ArcGIS, and MicroStation environments. Label-EZ’s highest-in-the-industry output quality and multi-GIS capability made it an optimal tool for the City’s mapping needs. It significantly improved the response time to the demanding map-requests from the city agencies.

CGIS recently migrated to a spatial database model and our legacy CAD based labels would never really convert to the new system. Label-EZ enabled the City to generate new labels for several different products in a fraction of the time. They are now able to produce high quality labels for many different municipal mapping products including: Tax-maps, FIRM maps, Address maps, Emergency Response maps and the Street and Vicinity maps.

"Label-EZ is easy to use and to configure. Once in place we are able to quickly produce labels in any format to any scale we desired. It makes producing new and existing map products a snap. MapText has the best technical support team in the GIS business when we call for help we always receive a quick and helpful response," City of Virginia Beach GIS Coordinator, Rob Jessen, commented.

"MapText is proud to provide high-quality text placement technology to satisfy the City of Virginia Beach’s rigorous mapping requirements. We are glad to hear that the City has saved enormous amounts of time and money by using Label-EZ," added Shailesh Chanekar, MapText’s Sales Manager.
