Geosoft announces 2007 software release for Oasis montaj, Target and Target for ArcGIS

Advances in data access, mapping productivity and 3D subsurface visualization make it easier to find, view and work with earth datasets

TORONTO, Ontario—January 22, 2007—Geosoft® Incorporated, a leading provider of earth data solutions for the geosciences industry, announced today the availability of its 2007 software release, which includes release 6.4 of the Oasis montaj™ earth mapping system and Target™ exploration geology software for Windows, and the 2.2 release of Target for ArcGIS subsurface geology software for ESRI's ArcGIS. The software release delivers new productivity tools, enriched 3D and imaging features that respond to geoscientists' requirement for more advanced visualization capabilities and faster, easier production of data outcomes to support decision-making.

"This release builds on the major usability and productivity advances we've introduced within the Geosoft software environment over the past year, which have resulted in putting more power, flexibility and control in the hands of our users," said Louis Racic, Product Management Director. "It supports our goal of helping geoscientists to recapture time lost to finding, handling and working with data, so they are more free to explore."

"With our Target for ArcGIS development, Geosoft's strength in subsurface workflow and robust mapping functionality continues to support ArcGIS users that require simple-to-use but advanced capabilities for viewing and working with borehole and drillhole data within their GIS environment," said Racic.

Enhanced integration between the Dapple Globe data explorer and Geosoft applications makes it easier than ever to find and visualize the massive quantities of geoscientific data available through the Internet on WMS, government image tile servers and Geosoft DAP servers.

With the latest release, Geosoft has made significant improvements to its Oasis montaj extension software for geophysical filtering, MAGMAP. A new Interactive Spectrum Filter provides instant visual grid updates, while applying MAGMAP filtering techniques. Users can now preview results prior to their application, for an entire grid, significantly reducing experimentation time.

The 2007 release also demonstrates Geosoft's continuing commitment to data access and interoperability with GIS, GOCAD and other geoscience applications. Surface files created in GOCAD can now be displayed and worked with within the Geosoft 3D subsurface environment. Improvements have been made to both data handling within Target for ArcGIS, and the representation of ArcGIS maps within Geosoft's Oasis montaj and Target environments, achieving a more seamless workflow between GIS and Geosoft's robust earth data applications.

Mapping Enhancements in Geosoft's Oasis montaj and Target 6.4:
New mapping tools improve workflows
New Automated Map Sheets enable faster, easier generation of multiple map sheets. Geoscientists making a series of maps that require consistency can easily apply a single map template to multiple maps.

Auto Recolour Grids enable you to examine your data with more detail and accuracy. As you pan or zoom your grid, the colour palette automatically adjusts to provide the full range of colours, as you examine an anomaly. This enhanced function makes it more effective to verify anomalies, examine joins when stitching grids, and examine potential errors.

New Map Snapshot function enables Geoscientists to bookmark their map projects. The new function enables you to return to areas of interest and to preview new data, as new data arrives. Bookmarked areas of interest make it easy to go back and review potential targets. Once you take a Map Snapshot of the location, it's embedded in your file, and can be easily shared with colleagues.

Subsurface Enhancements in Geosoft's Oasis montaj, Target and Target for ArcGIS:

New Subsurface 3D tools improve display and understanding of drillhole and model data.

Geosoft's new Plot Isosurface tool is a simple-to-use and valuable visualization tool that allows you to display isosurfaces from your 3D grids and, thereby, gain a better understanding of geological formations.

New anisotropic 3D gridding of subsurface point data and models enhances your visualization of targets in their 3D environment.

You can grid in your preferred direction, or incorporate geological strike, dip, and plunge data, to better represent the data and preferentially enhance trends in a specified direction.

The 3D Viewer now includes a spinning mode that allows you to more accurately interpret targets and other objects.

This interactive ability improves the collaboration and understanding amongst groups of geoscientists of subsurface anomalies and drill holes and is used to enhance presentations to project managers and stakeholders.

Additional Features in Geosoft's Target and Target for ArcGIS 2.2 release:

Improved workflows have been added to the tabbed GUIs for Plan, Section, Stacked Section, and the "Draw holes on any plan" functionality. A new "Collars" Tab has been added with three main selections for collar symbols: Fixed, Zone and Classified.

All Geosoft Oasis montaj, Target and Target for ArcGIS users who are active in the Maintenance Program can automatically update their software, or may download the release from the Geosoft website at no additional cost.
