The Los Angeles Film School Adds Game Development Degree and Computer Animation Degree

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 14, 2008 -- The Los Angeles Film School has added two degree offerings, an Associate of Science Degree in Game Development and an Associate of Science Degree in Computer Animation, each set to begin in September 2008.

The Game Development Associate's Program will provide an opportunity for students seeking an education in video game development. It will cover the process of creating a video game from the initial stages of game structure and preproduction, to advanced coding, artificial intelligence, and game engine creation.

The Computer Animation Associate's Program will allow students to learn the animation pipeline used throughout the industry to create art and special effects for games, television, and film. It will feature training in advanced modeling software to create virtual models, characters, and visual effects for a variety of multimedia applications.

The new degrees will join The Los Angeles Film School's recently introduced Associate of Science Degree in Film as the next step in the evolution of the school's curriculum.

"These degrees are a natural addition to the curriculum at The Los Angeles Film School," said Diana Derycz-Kessler, Chief Executive Officer. "Game developers and computer animators have stories to tell, much like our filmmakers."

"This is a great addition to the educational landscape in Southern California, as Los Angeles is the hub of the gaming industry," said Andi Smithers, Research and Development Senior Engineer for Sony On Line in San Diego. "Not only is there a strong industry demand for well-equipped people, but as technology changes and new techniques need to be acquired, professionals are constantly looking to refresh their own skills."

About The Los Angeles Film School

Founded in 1999, The Los Angeles Film School (LAFS) is located in the heart of Hollywood at the historic RCA Building at 6363 Sunset Boulevard. The private post-secondary educational institution, which has quickly become a leading academic center for aspiring filmmakers, is complete with a faculty of industry professionals teaching its students the craft of filmmaking, including film production and postproduction technology with an exceptional film curriculum in state-of-the-art facilities.

The 87,000 square foot building where the school partially resides had previously been used as production facilities by legendary artists such as Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Henry Mancini and John Williams, who recorded the orchestral score to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi there in 1983. In addition, LAFS has recently expanded its campus by adding the 100,000 square foot six-story building next door at 6353 Sunset Boulevard. Together the properties form the campus which occupies an entire city block in Hollywood and beyond. Earlier this year, the school also purchased the 8,000 square foot Ivar Theater, which has held many significant performances, including Lord Buckley, The Grateful Dead and The Doors. The school's campus evolution and real estate enhancements are part of a major transformation of the Hollywood area.

Their faculty brings knowledge and techniques straight from the Hollywood set with credits on major motion pictures. Graduates have also been honored as winners in numerous Independent Film Festivals throughout the world; in addition, The Hollywood Reporter named LAFS "One of the best-equipped private learning centers in the country."
