Elan Digital's Chip Enables PCMCIA Interface for Intel Atom Processors

FAREHAM, UK -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Jul 21, 2008 -- Elan Digital Systems is launching its USBPC16 and USBPC32 chipsets to the market. The chipsets, which up till now were used as a proven solution in-house, now offer a simple and inexpensive product for designers using Intel's new Atom Processors and needing to provide a legacy PCMCIA interface. Unlike other products on the market, these devices are not restricted to memory cards only.

The USBPC16 interface device is a PCMCIA card host for USB interface, designed for embedded applications. It enables connection of 16-bit PC Card or Compact Flash devices via the USB bus. The USBPC16 device can also be used to produce adapters which connect physically via a USB connector, or via a USB-type ExpressCard. It can also be used to add a PCMCIA or CF host to a system which has USB available.

Both USBPC16 and USBPC32 are designed to interface to the host processor via a standard USB2.0 port. Whilst the USBPC16 provides a 16 bit PCMCIA interface, the USBPC32 supports CardBus 32 bit applications.

As a future development Elan Digital plans to provide a single device for both 16 & 32 bit depending upon market demand.
