LMS releases Modelica-compliant LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim 1D multi-domain system simulation platform

Leuven, Belgium – October 1, 2008 – LMS, the engineering innovation company, is pleased to announce that its newly released LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim Rev 8A supports the open-source Modelica programming language standard.  Modelica is an object-oriented, multi-domain modeling language for component-oriented modeling of complex systems, e.g. systems containing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, thermal, control or electric power subcomponents.

Over the past three years, LMS has incrementally incorporated Modelica support LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim, a complete 1D simulation suite to model and analyze multi-domain, intelligent systems and predict their performance. The components of the model are described by mathematical equations representing the system behavior. To create a system simulation model in LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim, users can take advantage of packaged solutions including specific tools and application libraries of pre-defined components for different physical domains.

The capability to import, edit and compile Modelica-based models in LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim

Rev 8A confirms LMS’ commitment to the Modelica standard. In the future, LMS will continue to play a leading role in various Modelica-related pan-European projects as well as incorporating new Modelica developments in future releases. “LMS’ strategy is to offer an open system simulation platform to model, simulate and analyze multi-domain systems,” stated Jan Leuridan, Chief Technology Officer, LMS International. “The LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim platform provides a set of off-the-shelf application-specific solutions so our customers can rapidly evaluate functional product performance. Supporting Modelica extends the standard capabilities of LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim to include native AMESim as well as Modelica-based models.”

The Modelica open-source programming community is clearly growing as is multi-domain system simulation, a highly strategic process for developing competitive product designs. With LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim Rev 8A, LMS customers will be able to take advantage of tools and application libraries from both AMESim software developers and the Modelica community.

"I am delighted that LMS has selected the Modelica open source language," commented Daniel Bouskela from the Research & Development division of Electricité de France (EDF). "Our strategy at EDF R&D is to strongly endorse promising open standards such as Modelica to ensure the long-term continuity of our power plant models. LMS’ decision will certainly help Modelica gain more recognition in the industry."

"The LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim platform is today widely used at PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN to model full vehicle power systems,” testified Franck Guillemard, mechatronics department manager at PSA PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN. “Modelica is an innovating, promising language about to become an industry standard for system modeling. LMS’ decision to integrate this open source language in its simulation platform further endorses PSA’s confidence in LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim."
