Quantm Releases Version 6.0

MELBOURNE, Australia, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantm Pty. Ltd., a Trimble company and a leader in transportation route optimization, today announced the release of Version 6.0 of the Quantm system, the most recent version of the company's tool for 3-Dimensional road and rail alignment optimization for feasibility, planning, early stages of design and value engineering. The new version was developed based on feedback from public and private sector clients who are currently using the Quantm service to save planning time and construction cost on projects ranging from 5 kilometers to over 1000 kilometers globally.

Based on innovative technology, the Quantm system allows project managers to address the shortcomings of the conventional approach to transportation route planning by allowing transportation planners to integrate environmental, community, cultural, engineering and cost factors into a single analysis tool. The release of Version 6.0 brings a variety of new benefits and functionality to the alignment optimization tool.

Quantm's Version 6.0 capability now supports geometric alignments, allowing even more seamless integration and alignment workflow between Quantm visualization software and detailed CAD design packages for final design.

Version 6.0 provides the ability to edit geometric alignments and structures associated with a given alignment, multi-rate cost models for bridges and tunnels, as well as supports new export formats, including LandXML and Terramodel PRO (a Trimble file format). Additionally new exports to software packages for determining rail operating costs allow an integrated approach to balancing initial construction costs with estimated lifetime operating costs.

The new features of Version 6.0 also include support for dual carriageway alignments, enhancements to material handling and material mass flow (Mass Haul), and file importers to allow industry standard GIS and CAD information to be directly imported into the Quantm System.

Quantm Version 6.0 provides revolutionary planning and preliminary design tools to project teams. The enhanced Quantm tool, designed to assist strategic decision making in rail and road projects, provides a seamless integration with tools for the design phase, allowing the decision maker, engineer and planner to focus on their areas of expertise, while using advanced planning, design and decision making tools.

"Quantm is committed to the development of easy-to-use planning solutions for road and rail route optimization applications globally. Quantm's service assists senior project stakeholders to make strategic decisions on transport infrastructure, through the provision of more accurate information earlier in the planning process," said Mark Nichols, General Manager of Quantm, "The new version enhances the integration with the detailed design phase to shorten the planning and design cycle time."

About Quantm Pty. Ltd.

Quantm, a Trimble company, was founded in 2000 to specifically address the complex task of route alignment selection. The Quantm system addresses the shortcomings of the conventional approach to transportation route planning by allowing transportation planners to integrate environmental, community, cultural, engineering and cost factors into a single analysis. By integrating the large amounts of data required by agencies involved in the environmental protection process in the United States, Quantm helps achieve the objective of reducing project impacts on the environment, including demonstrating that all reasonable alternatives have been considered as may be required by NEPA and Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act. The system has been successfully applied on road and rail projects worldwide, including 18 states in the US, Canada, Mexico, France, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Cameroon, Indonesia and China.
