Acquisitions Will Not Change Generic ERP's Falling Fortunes in AEC Industry

TORONTO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—October 13, 2008— CMiC, the leader in providing software solutions for the architectural, engineering and construction industry, responded to the recent acquisition of Primavera by Oracle by reaffirming their commitment to providing top level software solutions designed for the AEC industry.

Once again Oracle has acquired a major player in the software industry, said Bassem Hamdy, vice president of solutions at CMiC. While there has been speculation for months as to what impact this will have on the industry, the fact needs to be acknowledged that when software companies are acquired their product vision is diluted.

The major issue that is raised with this recent acquisition, according to Hamdy, is integration. I have found that progressive AEC companies have begun to realize when multiple solutions are involved integration is merely a marketing buzz word. Are the Primavera solutions going to be integrated into the Oracle ERP solution? asked Hamdy. If so, the question is which one? JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, Oracle Financials all seem unlikely as Fusion is being touted as the next ERP solution, but with no release date for that project, there will be little impact short term.

CMiC, which has grown organically to dominate 25% of the AEC market share and has never been acquired in its 35 year-history, continues to develop AEC industry specific ERP software solutions that enhance efficiency. CMiC had a record number of new clients this year, and has successfully expanded into the Heavy Highway and Capital Project Owners market space. In two recent surveys CMiC placed in the top three spots of all five EPR software categories.

CMiC is committed to providing mid to large sized companies in the building space with the top total solution, said Hamdy. With all mission critical information in one database, organizations that power their business with CMiC achieve breakthrough improvements in productivity.
