Avago Technologies Expands Family of Easy to Use, Fully Matched Amplifiers with New High Gain, High Linearity Balanced Amplifier Module

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—February 18, 2009— Avago Technologies, a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, today announced a new low-noise, high gain and high linearity balanced amplifier module for use in tower mounted amplifiers, low-noise amplifier (LNA) modules and cellular base station applications. Avago’s ALM-1522, which is the latest addition to its ALM-1x22 family of economical, easy-to-use fully matched GaAs amplifiers, is ideal for major 800 MHz / 900 MHz cellular bands such as GSM, CDMA, UMTS and next generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) applications that operate in the 700 MHz band.

Avago’s ALM-1522 offers a very low noise figure, and provides high linearity performance which helps to significantly improve the sensitivity and dynamic range of cellular base station receivers. The exceptional noise and linearity performance offered by this balanced amplifier module is achieved through the use of Avago’s proprietary 0.25 µm GaAs Enhancement-mode pHEMT process. Housed in a miniature 5mm by 6mm by 1mm surface mount Molded Chip on Board package, the ALM-1522 balanced amplifier module allows designers to develop smaller or more compact base station products such as pico and femto base station receivers that do not require as much board space as typical discrete solutions.

The ALM-1522 is a fully matched two-stage LNA module with no external RF matching components, which helps designers simplify their design and helps shorten their design to market cycle. Additionally, this balanced LNA module replaces four discrete transistors that are typically found in the traditional TMA, LNA/Filter combiner and LNA products used in base station front end receivers.
