Frontier Wind Selects MSC.Software's SimEnterprise Suite to Bring Innovation to Wind Turbine Design

Ability to Produce Better Products, Faster will Help Meet Department of Energy Growth Goals for Wind Energy

SANTA ANA, Calif., - February 9, 2009 - MSC.Software (NASDAQ: MSCS), a leading global provider of enterprise simulation solutions, including simulation software and services, announced that Frontier Wind, LLC has selected several MSC.Software solutions including the SimEnterprise solutions, SimManager and SimXpert, and MD Adams. Through the use of these simulation solutions, Frontier aims to develop more robust products, lower warranty costs and, through lean engineering and best practice re-use, increase profit margins.

The U.S. Department of Energy aims to increase the contribution from Wind Energy to supply 20% of the US electricity needs from its current level of 1.6% by the year 2030. This provides both a huge opportunity as well as a challenge as wind turbine manufacturers face the task of constant innovation under increasing market pressure. To meet these challenges, Frontier Wind has turned to MSC.Software to provide advanced analysis of turbine blades, including composite designs subject to a diverse set of loads and environmental conditions, and to create re-usable templates to accelerate the simulation process using Frontier Wind's best practice methods. This will enable Frontier Wind to reduce physical prototyping and testing requirements and thus, cut development time and costs.

"We strongly believe in simulation's ability to allow us to reduce the substantial costs of physical testing," said John McCoury, Vice President of Engineering, Frontier Wind. "MSC.Software are leaders in their field and their multi-discipline SimEnterprise solutions allow manufacturers to simulate more effectively, efficiently and accurately by taking advantage of best practice capture and reuse with templates, therefore allowing us to optimize design through simulation."

"We are excited to work together with Frontier Wind to meet the ambitious and exciting challenges facing the wind energy industry," said Bill Weyand, Chief Executive Officer, MSC.Software. "Frontier Wind recognizes that in order to meet these challenges, they must innovate and they have selected our products to allow them to use simulation early in the product development process rather than the back end, enabling them to optimize their designs and meet the innovation demands of their industry."
