Avago Technologies Announces its First 3-Watt Tricolor Moonstone Power LED for Solid-State Architectural and Commercial Lighting Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 18, 2009— Avago Technologies, a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, today announced its first 3-Watt (3W) Moonstone tricolor red, green and blue (RGB) LEDs for use in a wide range of solid-state architectural and commercial lighting applications. Avago’s competitively priced ASMT-MT00 3-in-1 LEDs delivers one of the brightest light output performances in the industry at 108 lumens and can be independently controlled to enable color-changing and mixing capabilities to meet the needs of designers developing decorative, retail, and wall washing lighting applications.

Avago’s 3W tricolor Moonstone LEDs come with three separate power LED chips mounted into the package and features a smooth 120-degree viewing angle, and a low profile design which is ideal for height constrained applications. Each chip within this LED package is capable of being driven at a current of 350 mA. In addition, each color can be individually driven and controlled to enable the ASMT-MT00 to generate the desired colors and enable color-changing capabilities. These LEDs are compatible with standard SMT reflow soldering processes and helps lower design cost while providing lighting designers with more freedom and flexibility in designing their applications.

The ASMT-MT00 has the ability to pre-mix the red, green and blue colors in the reflector cavity to produce a uniform white color output. This design feature eliminates the need for designers to use an additional light mixing device or light guide in their designs. Additionally, this series of Moonstone LEDs have a maximum allowable junction temperature of 125 degrees-C and an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) resistance of more than 16 kV which makes it insensitive to ESD. As a result, special ESD protection equipment is not required to handle the part during installation.
