Avago Technologies Expands Family of Next-Generation SFP+ Transceiver Products for 10Gbps Ethernet Equipment Designs

SAN DIEGO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 24, 2009— Avago Technologies today announced the expansion of its family of SFP+ optical transceiver modules for next-generation 10Gbps Ethernet equipment designs. The new additions include a 1310nm LRM multimode fiber transceiver, and transceivers for both LR single-mode fiber and SR multimode fiber applications with extended temperature capability for enterprise and data center applications. Avago is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications.

“The growing trend towards higher port densities in Ethernet equipment designs places increased constraints on design margins for key performance parameters in optical transceivers,” said Sami Nassar, senior director of Marketing, Fiber Optic Product Division. “Avago has widened its 10Gbps SFP+ product family to support legacy multimode fiber and extended temperature transceivers enabling higher port density designs while maintaining high reliability performance.”

The AFBR-707SDZ 10Gb SPF+ LRM transceiver module incorporates Avago’s 1310nm FP Laser and PIN Detector technology to provide an IEEE 10Gb Ethernet design that’s compliant with the 10GBASE-LRM standard. This transceiver is designed to enable reuse of installed legacy multimode fiber cables to preserve end user cabling infrastructure.

Other key features of the AFBR-707SDZ include typical power dissipation of 0.8W; a full digital diagnostic management interface (DMI); and Avago’s SFP+ package design, which enables equipment EMI performance in high port density applications with margins to Class B limits. This LRM optical transceiver supports OM1, OM2, and OM3 multimode fiber reaches of up to 220 meters.

Avago’s new AFCT-701ASDZ 10 Gb/s SFP+ LR optical transceiver offers extended temperature range performance and operates over single-mode fiber at distances up to 10 km in compliance with the optical interface specifications per IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-LR. These transceivers are manufactured with Avago’s 1310nm DFB Laser and PIN Detector technology. Moreover, the AFCT-701ASDZ supports an extended case operating temperature range from 0 to 85-degrees Celsius to enable very high port density equipment designs. Avago’s AFCT-701ASDZ is an addition to the previously released ACFT-701SDZ which operates at case temperatures in the commercial range from 0 to 70-degrees Celsius while maintaining maximum power dissipation of less than 1W.

The extended temperature AFBR-703ASDZ SFP+ SR transceiver incorporates Avago’s 850nm VCSEL and PIN Detector technology to provide an IEEE 10Gb Ethernet design that is compliant with the 10GBASE-SR standard. The AFBR-703ASDZ transceiver is designed with an extended case temperature range from 0 to 85-degrees Celsius to enable 10Gb Ethernet equipment designs with very high port density. Avago’s AFBR-703SDZ commercial temperature range transceiver is also available upon customer request.

Avago’s family of 10 Gbps Ethernet SPF+ optical transceivers comply with the electrical interface specifications from SFF-8431 for enhanced 10Gb SFP, as well as the SFF-8472 specification for DMI in optical transceivers. All of Avago’s 10Gb SPF+ transceiver products are RoHS compliant.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the AFBR-707SDZ, AFCT-701SDZ/ASDZ, and AFBR-703SDZ/ASDZ 10Gb SFP+ optical transceivers are $370, $380/$430 and $250/$300, respectively, in minimum quantities of 10. Samples are available now with general availability by the end of April 2009.
