CS Chooses Presagis STAGE™ Scenario as Simulation Software for French Department of Defence’s Project

BRUSSELS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 12, 2009 Presagis™, a leading provider of commercial-off-the shelf (COTS) modeling, simulation and embedded display graphics software, today announced that CS Communication & Systèmes (CS), a designer, integrator and operator of mission-critical systems, chose Presagis STAGE™ Scenario software as the foundation for the simulation platform that it has developed for the Ballistics and Aerodynamic Research Laboratory (LRBA) of the French Department of Defence’s Délégation Générale pour l’Armement (DGA). The DGA is responsible for the design, acquisition and evaluation of systems used to equip the French armed forces. CS selected STAGE Scenario based on the flexibility, openness and extensibility of the COTS product which enabled CS to seamlessly integrate a number of customized simulation modules and interfaces that were developed to meet their specific needs, while adhering to their tight timelines.

Development of the simulation platform began in January 2008. Three months later the first elements were delivered with the complete platform installed and operational within nine months. The solution, which is used to simulate intercontinental missile terrain and ballistic missiles models, has STAGE Scenario at its core and incorporates the various modules and solutions developed by CS including VirtualGeo 3D GIS for large database preparation, VisualSim for 3D visualisation of simulation and 3D visual extensions built to represent specific phenomena, broader environmental models, real meteorological behaviour as well as several statistics and analysis tools.

"Only a COTS-based software with its inherent flexibility, scalability and ease-of-use could allow us to deliver such a mature solution in such a short space of time,” said Eric Bouvier, director of the virtual reality and simulation department at CS. “We needed a product that would provide a solid, tried and tested foundation yet could also be easily interfaced with other software and customized according to the customer’s requirements, and STAGE Scenario met all of these requirements. At CS, we bid for tenders regularly and will most definitely be using our rewarding experience with STAGE Scenario at the LRBA to offer innovative solutions for major new projects.”

STAGE Scenario allows non-programmers to build a tactical database and to then simulate dynamic, interactive, complex, and real-time tactical or operational environments. These environments, called scenarios, contain individual platforms—including air, ground or sea vehicles. Every platform may be equipped with weapons and other defining characteristics that interact through detection, communication, engagement, and/or destruction.

“Ensuring easy interoperability between our simulation tools and third party software gives users more freedom, increases project efficiency and reduces costs” stated Robert Kopersiewich, Vice President of Product and Program Management, Presagis. “Simulation products need to be open and scalable to support the way developers work and let them focus on creating new, dynamic scenarios. We were thrilled to work with CS on this innovative project and that they chose Presagis COTS simulation tools to help the LRBA evaluate and perfect the performance of its missiles and navigation systems.”

In future CS also intends to integrate other Presagis COTS products with CS components to build customized simulation solutions. These Presagis products will include Vega Prime™ for real-time 3D application development and deployment; AI. Implant™, an artificial intelligence middleware and toolset designed for real-time embedded simulation; and Creator™, a leading direct-purpose real-time 3D modeling toolset.
