Avago Technologies Introduces Pair of Low Cost VSAT Power Amplifiers in 5x5 Surface Mount Package

BOSTON — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 10, 2009 Avago Technologies, today announced a new pair of low cost surface mount (SMT) 2- and 4-Watt power amplifiers for use in Ka band VSAT ground terminal applications. Avago’s AMMP-6413/6415, which provide high linearity, are fully monolithic power amplifiers offered in a 5mm by 5 mm SMT package. Both of these new amplifiers provide high efficiency to help reduce power consumption and the need for heat dissipation. Moreover, these features make these new PAs from Avago ideal for use as last stage power amplifiers in systems that require increased linearity for high data rate transmission. Avago is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications.

VSAT device designers are continually looking for low cost PAs that are highly reliable, and offer a high dynamic range (better output power, gain, and linearity) to fulfill the growing demand in the market for commercial and enterprise internet over satellite applications. In addition, a growing number of VSAT customers are moving towards surface mount technology in an effort to reduce their assembly cost through automation. Avago’s AMMP-6413/6415 PAs were developed to address this design need in the marketplace.

Avago’s 2-watt AMMP-6413 and 4-watt AMMP-6415 MMICs are designed for use in Ku Band VSAT transmitters that operate at frequencies between 13.75GHz and 14.5GHz. In the operational band these PAs provide 33 dBm and 36dBm of output power and 29dB of small-signal gain.

Key Features

  • Low cost 5mm by 5 mm SMT package
  • Frequency range: 13.75 to 14.5 GHz
  • Output Power: two and four-watt options available
  • High linearity, OIP3
  • 50 ohm matched on input and output
  • ESD protection (50V MM and 150V HBM)

Pricing and Availability

Avago’s AMMP-6413 and AMMP-6415 are available now with pricing starting from $20 and $25, respectively in 10,000 unit volumes. More information about Avago Technologies’ wireless products can be found at: www.avagotechwireless.com.
