NGIS Lead Architect recognised with industry leading certification

July 22, 2009 —NGIS Australia's Lead Architect, Graeme Browning is one of only about 50 GIS professionals who have formally been recognised as achieving the prestigious GISP-AP certification.

GISP-AP, or Geographic Information Systems Professional –– Asia Pacific, is a certification reserved for valued members of the GIS profession who have demonstrated commitment to professional excellence.

The certification represents an endorsement by an independent third party, after a rigorous process whereby applicants must meet minimum standards with regards to educational background, professional experience and contributions made to the GIS profession. It is designed to promote professional and ethical standards in the industry.

Graeme’s says that the GISP-AP Certification is another one of his proudest achievements.

“I was really honoured to receive the letter saying I had achieved GISP-AP certification. I was a founding member of the SSI, so I feel like the certification recognises my longstanding commitment and involvement with the spatial profession. The certification will be kept proudly alongside my Ph.D. and ESRI High Achievement Award from Jack Dangermond,” he said.

The GISP-AP Certification Program is delivered by the Spatial Information and Cartography Commission of the Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI). Graeme will be formally presented with the certification at a ceremony in December this year.

Prior to joining NGIS Australia in 2007, Graeme’s career spanned the South Australian Museum, the South Australian Department of Environment and Planning, and 18 years with ESRI International Distributors (in the UK and Australia). He has been working in the spatial industry for more than 23 years. He currently works for NGIS in Brisbane.

Graeme also writes an occasional blog called PolyGeo ( http://ngisaustralia.blogspot.com/) which is primarily intended for prospective users of the many GIS products, both COTS and Open Source, in the Australian spatial community.
