NAVTEQ Traffic(TM) Selected by Michigan Department of Transportation

Drivers in Michigan can make smart routing choices with accurate real-time traffic

CHICAGO,—September 15, 2009 — /PRNewswire/ -- NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions, announced today that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has selected NAVTEQ Traffic to be the provider of real-time traffic information for selected routes in Michigan.

NAVTEQ Traffic is a comprehensive solution offering data gathering and aggregation for delivery of up-to the minute traffic information. MDOT is using NAVTEQ Traffic to expand its current traffic coverage to highways connecting several regions within Michigan that are outside of major urban areas. NAVTEQ Traffic provides coverage for primary and secondary roads giving drivers traffic coverage as they travel from one area of Michigan to another. Drivers in Michigan can access real-time traffic information and make more informed route choices by visiting www.michigan.gov/drive and clicking on Statewide Travel Times.

In order to provide MDOT with comprehensive and reliable real-time traffic information, NAVTEQ Traffic utilizes its highly-advanced, proprietary NAVTEQ Smart Traffic Processor(TM), which merges and optimizes multiple sources of traffic data. These sources include GPS probe data, and fixed sensor data points from toll tag readers, as well as proprietary and government sensors. NAVTEQ has taken a highly reliable, comprehensive approach to traffic, offering the three types of critical traffic information--planned incidents, unplanned incidents and flow--all aggregated from multiple, proven sources.

"Expanded traffic service for inter-city travel is a significant factor in Michigan's economy. NAVTEQ Traffic will enhance our existing programs for delivering real-time traffic information to the public," said Greg Krueger, Statewide ITS Program Manager for the Michigan Department of Transportation. "This agreement will help improve safety and promote mobility on our vast network."

Drivers using NAVTEQ Traffic can make smart routing and re-routing decisions by being alerted to detailed information about road construction, traffic flow and incidents, such as accidents. NAVTEQ Traffic is available in more than 120 markets*, covering more than 200 million people in the United States and Canada.

"NAVTEQ is committed to delivering the comprehensive and accurate traffic information consumers are demanding to make their daily lives easier," said Roy Kolstad, vice president, enterprise Americas, NAVTEQ. "We are pleased that MDOT has selected NAVTEQ Traffic and recognizes the value of making real-time traffic more broadly available in Michigan."
