QuickLogic CSSPs Dramatically Lower Power Consumption in Intel Atom-Based Netbook and MID Designs

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 22, 2009 — Underscoring its commitment to providing innovative solutions for the Netbook and Mobile Internet Device (MID) market, QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK) revealed a fully-operational Customer Specific Standard Product (CSSP) that leverages the power-saving benefits of the Visual Enhancement Engine (VEE) technology for an MID design based on the Intel® Atom™ processor. QuickLogic will be providing CSSP details and battery life extension results, as well as demonstrating the MID product and its display quality, at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco.

QuickLogic’s VEE technology improves the viewability of multimedia content on an LCD display, especially under high ambient light conditions including sunlight. The enhancement allows MIDs to deliver an excellent viewing experience with lower backlight intensity than would otherwise be required. This reduced intensity translates into significantly lower display power consumption. The VEE technology is now product-design-proven to work with the Intel Atom processor and is available as a Proven System Block (PSB) for inclusion in a CSSP.

“Larger, high resolution displays consume a substantial amount of power in Atom-based designs,” said Brian Faith, QuickLogic’s vice president of worldwide marketing. “The use of a CSSP with VEE technology helps extend battery life in such products which is critical to the user experience.”
