City of Airdrie Public Works Department Implements CityMap™ 9 to Manage Service Calls

Portland, OR – GeoNorth is pleased to announce the delivery and implementation of a powerful Public Works solution for the City of Airdrie, Alberta. Leveraging the ESRI ELA, the City was able to purchase, configure and deploy GeoNorth’s CityMap™ solution to meet Public Works related business needs. The CityMap solution integrates seamlessly with the City’s existing enterprise GIS program and other business systems to serve departmental needs. Choosing an enterprise license option provided the City with the flexibility to deploy easily tailored solutions to all City departments at no additional cost.

Previously the City’s Public Works Department utilized spreadsheets and basic MS Access applications to track service calls, inspections, and work activity. This was error prone and captured a very limited amount of information. Additionally, work history on particular assets was difficult to determine and the information was not tied to the existing enterprise GIS. Research for decision making and budgeting was extremely time consuming To overcome these limitations and problems the Public Works Department desired a map centric solution to quickly locate assets, capture service call information, capture asset work activity information, and to store the work history and problem resolution.

To meet these needs, GeoNorth incorporated a service request component into CityMap which accommodates service needs, work activity, and resolution. This enables managers to best utilize the staff, resources, equipment, materials and time required by making informed decisions in an effective manner. Information is now at the fingertips of management and field crews. Simple reports easily show the real-time status of work activity and resolution time. Public Works staff is now better equipped to perform integrated planning, organizing, improved resource management, tracking and reviewing not only day to day tasks but also annual and long range maintenance programs. Future integrations of asset management components such as pavement management, parks, capital project management and tangible capital assets will be easily accomplished due to the modular capabilities of CityMap.

About CityMap
CityMap is a "database-driven" desktop/mobile product for querying and viewing GIS, tabular, and raster data from disparate sources in an integrated "dashboard-style" interface. Data sources, queries, map display properties, and user access can be configured without programming. Because of its flexibility and versatility, CityMap™ is often used as an Enterprise GIS application or to map-enable traditional database systems such as permitting, asset management (CMMS), as well as police RMS and CAD systems. It can also be bundled with data products that are marketed to external customers.

CityMap is full-featured, yet simpler and less expensive than an all-purpose desktop GIS product such as ArcGIS ArcView®. At the same time, it delivers more functionality and faster performance than web-based alternatives, and does not require special server hardware or server administration expertise. Just like ArcGIS ArcView or ArcGIS Server®, it can use your existing MXD files which make it even easier to support.

While keeping the traditional CityMap user interface design that many have come to depend upon for its scalability and extensibility, the latest version of CityMap9 has been completely re-architected as a .NET and ArcObjects® based solution. It also been greatly improved with features such as a mailing label wizard, GPS tracking, advanced bookmarks, document integration, markup, configurable query screens, reports, and printable maps. CityMap also features administrative utilities for managing access. CityMap has a multi-tiered license that provides even more flexibility for smaller organizations as well as an unlimited enterprise license for mid to larger sized organizations.
