Nemetschek Scia Expands Operations into North America to Offer Latest in Structural Analysis, Design, and BIM Solution

Brussels, Belgium (October 20 October, 2009) -- Nemetschek Scia announced today that it has expanded operations into North America. In partnership with Nemetschek North America, Nemetschek Scia has opened a new office in Columbia, Maryland, to market and support its Scia Engineer software. For the first time, North American engineers will now have access to one of Europe’s leading structural design, analysis, and optimization programs.

Founded in 1974, Nemetschek Scia has a long history of helping firms succeed in the global engineering market. Scia Engineer is used by firms such as AECCOM (formerly Faber Maunsell), ARCADIS NV, Besix, Grontmij NV, Mott MacDonald Group Ltd, Royal Haskoning, and Toyota Europe, among others. Scia Engineer provides the latest in structural BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology. By integrating 2D/3D modeling, design, analysis, optimization, code checking, and documentation, Scia Engineer connects today’s disparate engineering technologies and allows firms to replace multiple software packages with a single easy-to-use platform.

“The rapid adoption of BIM is compelling firms to examine their existing tools and workflows,” says Dan Monaghan, Nemetschek Scia’s North American Managing Director. “Scia Engineer streamlines the design process and makes it easy for structural engineers to participate with others in the BIM process.” Scia Engineer can be used as a stand-alone design, analysis, and documentation tool. Scia Engineer can also complement a firm’s existing workflows by providing powerful analysis, optimization, and code-checking capabilities with bi-directional links to BIM authoring tools such as Autodesk Revit Structure and detailing and fabrication software such as Tekla Structures, as well as support for IFC 2.x3 level 2.

“Scia Engineer excels at solving complex structural engineering problems, while, at the same time, improving the efficiency of the engineer’s everyday tasks,” says Nemetschek Scia Chief Executive Officer Jean-Pierre Rammant. “As structures become lighter, taller, longer, and more complex, engineers need tools that can keep up, but not at the expense of slowing down the typical analysis and design responsibilities.”

The program is used to maximize the performance of all types of structures, from high-rise buildings, industrial halls, and large-span roofs (with cables or membranes) to classical structures in steel and concrete. In addition, it provides dedicated solutions for infrastructure and environmental installations, such as bridges, tanks, pipelines, concrete vessels, steel towers, and scaffolding.

It handles any combination of materials, free-form geometry, and all types of analyses, from simple beam check (1D), to single plate (2D), to whole structure (3D), to detailed analysis of how structures will perform over time (4D). Integrated international code checking, part optimization, parametric objects, clash detection, and integrated documentation are some of the features that allow engineers to work faster, optimize structures for costs and codes, and reduce errors.
