The City of Midland, TX, Reports Outstanding Results with Cityworks

City Offers Enthusiastic Feedback of Recently Implemented CMMS with Plans to Further Expand

November 10, 2009 -- Sandy, UT —
The City of Midland, Texas, implemented Cityworks by Azteca Systems, Inc., the leading provider of GIS-centric management solutions, utilizing the software in various departments across the City with outstanding results. Extremely satisfied with Cityworks and its GIS compatibility, the City plans to further expand the software throughout their organization.

Dissatisfied with their previous system, Midland made the decision to select a new CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System) in late 2006. The City received three proposals and following an in-depth review and presentation from each company, the selection team agreed that Cityworks offered the greatest value, expandability, and GIS compatibility. In August of 2007, the City awarded a contract for the implementation of Cityworks to Azteca Systems and Azteca Business Partner, NTB Associates, Inc.

The City of Midland’s Utilities, Transportation, and Traffic Engineering Divisions utilize the Cityworks software to care for critical assets and to track work performed. Servicing over 35,000 customers, the Utilities Division uses Cityworks to manage a water distribution system and wastewater collection system encompassing numerous assets, including hundreds of miles of pipelines, thousands of fire hydrants, several enclosed storage facilities, pump stations, a treatment plant, and over 40 production wells. The Transportation Division responds to numerous maintenance tasks utilizing Cityworks, such as street repair, flooding, traffic signal malfunctions, and many others. Technicians within the Traffic Engineering Division also use Cityworks to manage tasks like checking for sightline obstructions of signals and signs, conducting studies of pedestrian and vehicle flow patterns, and installing and maintaining all traffic control devices.

“From my involvement with Azteca and Cityworks throughout the planning and implementation process, I believe the only thing better than Azteca’s marketing, project management, and technical coordination is the Cityworks software itself!” exclaimed Bill Hodge, GIS Division Manager for the City of Midland. “Our first-round implementation within Transportation and Utilities was the beginning of a true enterprise use of the Cityworks asset management software within the City. I have already started planning an expansion of my GIS capability to match the anticipated increase in Cityworks usage as other departments start to see the productivity increase that can be realized through this great product.”

“We are truly pleased with Midland’s excitement and satisfaction with Cityworks,” stated Brian Haslam, President of Azteca Systems. “It is certainly nice to hear Bill’s comments as we continually recognize the importance of meeting the expectations of our clients with good, solid software and the best technical service. For Azteca, the focus is on customer satisfaction – from first contact through the implementation process to ongoing technical support and the continuing development of better software. Moreover, we work hard to keep our outstanding business partners like NTB Associated educated, knowledgeable, and up-to-date so they can deliver with the same capabilities.”
