Sanborn Completes Environmental Program

Colorado Springs, Colorado, December 7, 2009 - - John Copple, CEO of Sanborn, an industry leader in geospatial solutions, announced today the completion of an environmental program utilizing LiDAR and digital imagery of an eighty mile corridor on the Osage River.  The project stretched from Bagnell Dam, which creates the Lake-of-the-Ozarks to the Missouri River.  St. Louis based Ameren, an electric generation, transmission and distribution utility is required to file periodic FERC reports for erosion monitoring along the Osage River.  Water discharge from the hydro-electric plant may impact the environmental conditions and as part of the licensing requirement, the operation is closely regulated.  The LiDAR surface will serve as a base line for future reporting and analysis.

“Sanborn is frequently involved with utility mapping programs,” states Bob Williams, VP of Sanborn’s Imagery Services Central in St. Louis. “This was an interesting use of imagery and LiDAR that produces accurate and detailed information for critical analysis.” The survey results, river width and the island areas were calculated to determine the amount of change from previous reports.  The current analysis provided surface calculations, with the change in acreage reported against previous area calculations.  For future reporting, automated and supervised change detection on the LiDAR dataset will calculate precise volumes to detect subtle realignments and sediment deposits along the river corridor.
