Austin, Texas and Dulles, Va. - January 5, 2010 — Overwatch®, an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today the availability of RoadTracker 2.0 for Overwatch’s award-winning feature-extraction software, Feature Analyst.
RoadTracker 2.0 extends the ease-of-use and time-saving advantages of Feature Analyst by adding new capabilities for the many government and industry users of Feature Analyst’s suite of tools. The upgraded application, functional on any road surface type using either panchromatic or multi-spectral imagery, accelerates the collection of roads and other linear features from satellite or aerial imagery by up to a factor of four. This tool also includes automatic feature attribution and other smart editing capabilities that greatly improve speed, accuracy and workflow when collecting map-quality linear features.
“RoadTracker 2.0 provides the most rigorous and cartographically accurate approach for semi-automated linear feature collection in the industry,” said Stuart Blundell, director of Business Development for Overwatch. “With new enhancements in auto-topology editing, feature attribution and editing, this release addresses enterprise geospatial data production requirements for timely and accurate linear feature extraction from imagery.”
GeoEye’s senior director of Advanced System Development, Dr. Jacek F. Grodecki, added, “We originally developed RoadTracker for the U.S. Government and many of its contractors to increase the speed and accuracy of manual road extractions. RoadTracker 2.0 expands upon this concept by delivering a full suite of extraction and editing tools that vastly increases extraction efficiency, saving the end user both time and expense.”
Feature Analyst is an automated feature extraction extension that enables GIS analysts to rapidly and accurately collect vector feature data from high-resolution satellite and aerial imagery. Feature Analyst incorporates multi-attribute learning algorithms to also enable analysts to collect linear and polygonal features such as roads, hydrologic features, trails, buildings, vegetation, land-cover/land-use and many other features. Feature Analyst improves optimizes workflows for maintaining the temporal currency of geographic data.
