The Henry Ford Partners With Industrial Designers Society of America

DEARBORN, MI -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Apr 08, 2010 -- Home to one of the greatest industrial design collections in the world, The Henry Ford is proud to announce a partnership with the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). All winning and finalist designs of the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) will become part of The Henry Ford's permanent collection.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the IDEA program is the premier international competition honoring design excellence in products, ecodesign, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts.

"We are extremely proud to become the permanent home for some of these groundbreaking new ideas," said Patricia Mooradian, President of The Henry Ford. "The amazingly creative and advanced designs from these finalists will add even greater depth to our already expansive industrial design collection."

The final round of judging for the 2010 IDEA competition will be held at The Henry Ford. Jury voting will take place in the museum gallery space in Henry Ford Museum, which has held exhibits such as Best of Friends: Buckminster Fuller and Isamu Noguchi, Rock Stars' Cars and Guitars, and currently Good Design: Stories from Herman Miller. This year's esteemed jury will deliberate the 2010 finalists' designs on display in Henry Ford Museum.

"We are tremendously excited to be embarking on this partnership with The Henry Ford," remarked IDSA President Eric Anderson. "To have some of the world's best and most innovative designs to be judged -- and then displayed -- in a place as rich in design history as The Henry Ford really brings the IDEA competition one step further."

Following the jurying of these designs, IDEA finalists and winning designs will remain on exhibit in Henry Ford Museum from April 17-25. Within this limited time period, visitors to the museum will have a chance to cast their own vote for their favorite design. The public favorite will be announced at the IDEA ceremony scheduled for August 7 in Portland, Oregon, during IDSA's International Conference and Education Symposium. All of the 2010 IDEA winners will be announced in the July/August issue of Fast Company magazine.
