PLM Concept Set defines the Standard Knowledge for PLM Practitioners

Oxford, England. April 21, 2010

The PLMIG PLM Standards Workshop held in Oxford in March generated a number of new standards for PLM, including a standard that defines the fundamental understanding of PLM that all experienced practitioners should have.

The PLM Concept Set contains the formal definitions of 7 basic concepts of PLM:-

  • PLM Definition
  • PLM vs PDM Definition
  • 'Enterprise Down' Concept
  • PLM Permeation Concept
  • PLM Traction Concept
  • PLM Maturity Definition
  • PLM Best Practice Definition

The PLM Concept Set is a significant development because it formalises, in a very simple way, a standardised base point for PLM expertise. It embodies fundamental PLM ideas into an industry standard grouping, and encapsulates what experienced PLM people know but people new to the role may not.

The PLM Interest Group
The PLM Interest Group is a global Group which brings together its members to work proactively to solve their PLM problems. It has previously run workshops that have produced the PLM Benchmarking Handbook; the PLM-SCM Guidebook; and the PLM Maturity Reference Manual; and launched the first vendor-independent User Forum meetings.
