Trimble Introduces New Longer-Range Airborne Laser Scanning System

SAN DIEGO, Calif., — April 29, 2010 — Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) introduced today a new addition to its Trimble Harrier family of aerial imaging and laser scanning systems—the Trimble® Harrier 68i system. Designed for aircraft and helicopter operation, the Trimble Harrier 68i is ideal for long-range corridor, project, and wide-area mapping.

The announcement was made today at the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) 2010 Annual Conference.

Based on the Trimble Harrier 68, the Trimble Harrier 68i extends the laser scanner typical operating altitude to 1,600 meters above ground level. The system incorporates a wide-angle laser scanner with a 266 KHz effective measurement rate to deliver high point density on the ground, providing the detailed modeling data needed for precise planning, engineering, and monitoring applications.

“The Trimble Harrier family of aerial imaging and laser scanning systems provides a range of configurations to meet the business and technical needs of service companies—both small and large,” said Ken Spratlin, general manager of Trimble’s GeoSpatial Division. “These systems enable aerial mapping companies to provide a wider variety of services, deliver more expertise, and perform year-round assignments.”

The Trimble Harrier 68i includes:

  • LMS-Q680i airborne laser scanner
  • Trimble Aerial Camera—a 60 megapixel metric camera
  • Applanix POSTrack™ system providing GNSS-aided inertial direct georeferencing and advanced flight management
  • Easy-to-use operator and pilot displays with real-time monitoring of system status, imagery, and laser scanner data
  • Computer
  • Data storage and backup system
  • Pilot-only operation (optional)

The Trimble Harrier 68i is available now through Trimble’s GeoSpatial sales channel.
