iSEEK Corporation Holds First CADseek Polaris Users Conference

(Ames, Iowa, May 5, 2010) iSEEK Corporation held its first annual CADseek Executive Users Group Conference on April 28, 2010 in Houston, Texas. Keevin Foster, computer aided engineering specialist at Deere and Company, was the keynote speaker, and Rick Mihelic, with over 30 years engineering experience, also addressed the participants relating his own experience specifically with CADseek and the CAD data management market in general.

CADseek Polaris is the visual, CAD data management product developed by the iSEEK Corporation. CADseek extracts the geometry and attributes from conventional product data management (PDM) and product lifecycle management (PLM) software. Using the patented technology available in CADseek, a company’s CAD files are then automatically coded and indexed into families of similar shaped parts and assemblies. The graphical user interface or Navigator presents a visual display of the families for browsing and for analysis of redundant designs. Duplicate parts are identified and can then be eliminated from the database. One of the designs selected from the Navigator or a three-dimensional sketch from a CAD package can serve as a target for additional search of multiple CAD databases for similar shaped parts.

Users sharing their experiences with CADseek pointed out several important benefits. With CADseek, search can be conducted using shape alone, attributes alone or a combination of the two. The search is quick and accurate providing an ideal first step in locating parts and assemblies that can then be loaded into the CAD software using the PDM/PLM system. When parts are successfully located by CADseek they can be reused as is or easily modified for the new design application. Either way, the user saves money – either by not releasing a new part to production or by saving design time by modifying an existing model. A large OEM user of the software reported that they reached break even on their investment in CADseek after only eight months of use.

The search function can also assist in the location of parts to be used as substitutes for production parts or service replacement parts that are out of stock. Furthermore, one of the most convenient and essential uses reported at the conference was the ability to quickly estimate the cost of new designs by finding similar parts and viewing their actual cost. This use case is important for design and manufacturing engineers as well as those who work in supply chain management. Personnel in all of these areas have found CADseek easy to use, requiring very little if any formal training.

Dr. Abir Qamhiyah, CEO of iSEEK Corporation, ended the conference by introducing the company’s newest product developed for visual data management. CADseek Pegasus is “the enterprise solution for supply chain management,” explained Qamhiyah. It provides many of the same functions as CADseek Polaris, such as search for parts and assemblies based on either shape or attributes, but it also allows the user to locate suppliers who have provided similar parts in the past which shortens the time for sourcing newly designed parts. Furthermore, CADseek Pegasus provides a tool that will allow for elimination of duplicate or nearly identical parts, increasing the order size for the remaining parts at reduced prices.
