GeoDecisions to Enhance Broadband Access in Missouri with Mapping and Planning Project

(May 20, 2010/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions has been selected by the Missouri Office of Administration’s Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) to map the state’s existing broadband coverage by compiling and analyzing data from a variety of sources, as well as assist the state in broadband expansion planning. GeoDecisions is an information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions.

Partnering with the University of Missouri and with CBG Communications, Inc., GeoDecisions will collect information on broadband providers in the state and provide an independent source of evaluation for the data collection and mapping efforts based on public information sources. The initial collection of data will include confidential information from broadband providers, development of mapped service boundaries, and provision of field sampling and census.

Funded by a federal mapping grant under the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) State Broadband Data and Development Grant Program, the project will create a geographically accurate map of broadband infrastructure. When combined with population, demographics, and other data, the completed project will provide a detailed assessment of the availability and nature of broadband across Missouri. GeoDecisions will then work with Missouri’s Regional Technology Planning Teams to develop regional plans for expansion of broadband service in the state.

With a goal to expand broadband access to unserved and underserved citizens, the state of Missouri launched MoBroadbandNow in 2009, a private-public partnership that aggressively competes for federal broadband funds, under the 2009 American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
