TC Technology Helps Georgia Power Company Leverage GIS

Carlsbad, CA — August 12, 2010 — TC Technology announces Georgia Power Company (GPC) has successfully deployed a fit for purpose web application powered by GO! Sync.

GPC uses contractors to identify hundreds of potential issues on its transmission line right of ways every week. Potential issues are submitted as photographs with lat / long coordinates and GPC specialists determine disposition on a case-by-case basis.

With thousands of miles of transmission lines across the state of Georgia a systematic approach benefiting from GIS was desired. So, a GIS web application was deployed using ESRI’s ArcGIS Server that is automatically updated with incoming photographs using TC Technology’s GO! Sync data management capabilities.

The new GIS web application makes management straightforward. Photographs are displayed in native form, mapped on the right of way, and listed in tabular form so right of way specialists can easily retrieve, sort, view, clear, mark for follow-up, and export to a spreadsheet all photographs.

The return on investment was immediate as staff saved time through marked improved efficiency.

“The right of way specialists’ benefited day one from this technology solution,” states Paul Schneider of Georgia Power Company. “Leveraging our GIS and automating photograph uploads helped create process gains. However the most important factor was realizing a return on investment, which was achieved within the first quarter through saved labor time.”

The web application was implemented and trialed in the last quarter of 2009 and has since gone into production in 2010.
