Out-of-the-box 3D pipe support functionality enables process, power and marine designers to increase productivity and accelerate projects

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Sept. 2 — (PRNewswire) — Intergraph® and Bergen-Power Pipe Supports Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of pipe supports, have entered an agreement to supply the Bergen-Power hanger and support parts catalog with Intergraph SmartPlant® 3D and SmartMarine® 3D (collectively known as Smart 3D) engineering and design software solutions.

With the expansion of Smart 3D "out-of-the-box" content for hangers and supports parts data, Smart 3D users will be able to easily and quickly design complex hangers and supports to increase productivity and accelerate the design of fossil fuel and nuclear power plants, liquefied natural gas plants, steel and paper mills, chemical and refinery installations, marine and other applications.

In the catalogs, part representations are accurately and precisely displayed, allowing users to effortlessly and correctly model designs. Parts may also be simply ordered in compliance with Bergen-Power, which has been approved by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Nuclear Procurement Issues Committee, as well as vendor-approved ordering information.  Smart 3D's automated, configurable rules-based capability also enables users to set design rules for hangers and supports. This speeds the design process while building safety into plants early in the design process, enforcing regulation and engineering standards to increase safety, productivity and quality of operations.

"Bergen-Power offers one of the industry's most extensive catalogs for pipe hangers and supports for plants of all types and ratings," said David Lynch, executive vice president at Bergen-Power. "The inclusion of the parts library allows Smart 3D users new flexibility and ease when designing their process, power or marine facility."

Patrick Holcomb, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine executive vice president, said, "The inclusion of the Bergen-Power Pipe hangers and supports parts library in our SmartPlant 3D and SmartMarine 3D solutions demonstrates our continued commitment to the investment and expansion of our next-generation design solutions. This latest enhancement will help our clients work more productively and faster and enable them to gain a competitive edge."

SmartPlant Enterprise is an integrated solutions suite that provides full design, construction, materials and engineering data management capabilities needed for the creation, safe operation and maintenance, and capital Project Life Cycle Management (cPLM) of large-scale process, power, marine and offshore projects. The software's life cycle data management also enables a smoother handover for EPCs to owner operators and for owner operators to more easily maintain, refurbish or modify their plants.

Bergen-Power will be the first set of vendor parts data delivered entirely in SmartParts, a standardized set of parts specific to hangers and supports within SmartPlant Enterprise that is highly configurable through design reference data alone, needing no additional programming by the user. For example, there is no programming involved to change a clamp from two bolts to three bolts. Additionally, if an assembly is well-defined, it will be easy to swap parts in rod hanger assemblies from Vendor A's parts to Vendor B's parts for the entire plant. A customer may also create its own "special" parts based on the delivered SmartParts.

The Bergen-Power parts catalog for Smart 3D will be available in Q4 2010.

The ARC Advisory Group, a leading industry analyst firm, ranked Intergraph the No. 1 overall engineering design 3D software and process engineering tools (PET) provider worldwide according to its PET Worldwide Outlook Market Analysis and Forecast through 2013.
