LOS ANGELES — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 29, 2010 — The International 3D Society announced today that Panasonic Corporation will be the 2010 recipient of its prestigious Charles Wheatstone Award.
The Wheatstone Award named for inventor Charles Wheatstone, who invented the Stereoscope in 1838 in England, was also a noted advocate and educator about stereoscopic vision and imaging. In recognition of their great contribution to increasing public knowledge about stereoscopy as a technical art and craft, the International 3D Society acknowledges Panasonic as an educational force for 3D in the 21st century. The Wheatstone Award will be formally presented to Panasonic at the 3D Technology Awards on Oct. 19 at Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
International 3D Society President Jim Chabin congratulated Panasonic on its achievement, and noted, “for serving as James Cameron’s technology partner for “Avatar,” to first developing Full HD 3D plasma home entertainment in 2008, to establishing the Advanced Authoring Center within Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory for collaboration with the industry on development of 3D Blu-ray in 2009, Panasonic has been a vital partner for 3D advocates.
