Timmons Group’s Land LoGIStics Web Mapping for Spatial Accomplishment Tracking Selected by the Wildlife Management Institute

Richmond, VA – September 29, 2010 – Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial consulting and applications development, was recently selected by the Wildlife Management Institute (WMI) to develop a website based on Timmons Group’s Land LoGIStics framework.  The site will enable users to map spatial accomplishments and track treatments and species of wildlife to support implementation of the the American Woodcock Conservation Plan, and restoration of New England Cottontail.

In building the portal, Timmons Group will implement a scalable database model that supports linking funding sources to accomplishment codes and allows for historical and temporal tracking of spatial accomplishments.  Users will be able to create and edit both spatial and non-spatial accomplishments directly in a simple, easy-to-use, web mapping interface.  Powerful reporting capabilities will allow WMI stakeholders to easily analyze spatial accomplishments temporally, by boundary (e.g., political district, ecosystem, or other geospatial boundary), by accomplishment type, and by funding source. This highly beneficial reporting makes valuable data transparent and easily accessible to funders and the general public.  Website administrators within the Institute will also have the ability to continually add additional users, treatments, species and funding sources.

“All of our projects are partnership based,” stated Scot Williamson, VP of WMI, “and the Land LoGIStics system will provide seamless integration of partner accomplishments.  Timmons Group will play a critical role in helping us achieve restoration of these important species.”

Land LoGIStics will provide another tool meeting the habitat goals set forth by the American Woodcock Conservation Plan in producing and perpetually renewing young forest for safeguarding North American’s fascinating and valuable biodiversity.  Conservation biologists consider the woodcock to be an “umbrella species,” which means that creating habitat for woodcock simultaneously helps more than 50 other kinds of wildlife that need young forest during part or all of their life cycles.  The website will enable teams of experienced biologists to provide public and private landowners with data and advice on how best to create and renew young forest.
