Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Selects NAVTEQ for U.S. Map Data Coverage

Agreement supports FCC in enabling analysis of the national broadband map

Chicago, IL — November 04, 2010 — NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, announces their agreement with the FCC to supply nationwide map data in support of broadband availability analysis for U.S. states and territories.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 charges the FCC with developing a national broadband plan so that all Americans have access to broadband capability. Under the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Grant Program, each state and territory is required to report broadband availability information for their coverage area on a semi-annual basis. The NAVTEQ® map enables FCC analysis of this input and supports the development of a national broadband map.

NAVTEQ map data includes geospatial vector data layers of important value to broadband mapping including roads, cities, political boundaries, physical features, places, railroads, census boundaries, parks, schools, fire departments, police departments, and hospitals.

“We are dedicated to meeting the needs of our Federal and State government customers,” said Roy Kolstad, vice president, Enterprise Americas, NAVTEQ. “The NAVTEQ map is defined by its high level of accuracy, richness of content, rigorous quality testing processes and breadth of coverage, making it the superior choice for the FCC’s broadband initiatives.”
