OpenGeo’s Gabriel Roldan to Speak on GeoNode at Latin-American Open Source Software Conference – Latinoware 2010

Presentation Covers OpenGeo’s New Tools for Collaborative SDI Development

Gabriel Roldan, Geospatial Solutions Consultant at OpenGeo, will speak Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the seventh annual Latinoware conference in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.  Mr. Roldan’s talk, entitled "Building Enterprise SDI with GeoNode" will discuss the development of collaborative spatial data infrastructures using GeoNode, OpenGeo’s new open source SDI platform.   The presentation is aimed at local and regional government representatives interested in building collaborative SDIs the easy way, as well as geospatial industry enthusiasts and developers ready to join forces to realize this collaboration more quickly.

GeoNode, developed by OpenGeo in partnership with the World Bank, offers a compelling solution for collaboration and transparency in the spatial data realm.   The platform is comprised of GeoServer, GeoNetwork, Django, GeoExt, and a collection of additional open source tools.  This stack enables complex spatial visualization and analysis through a web browser with an added layer of features for collaboration and metadata creation.  These features allow people with a range of expertise to utilize GeoNode, while maintaining high standards of data integrity.   Amateur, commercial, NGO and governmental users can all contribute, collect, view, and analyze geographic data.  Possible applications include environmental monitoring, urban planning, and open government initiatives.

With an anticipated record-breaking attendance of 2500 this year, the Latinoware conference has become an increasingly prominent forum for representatives of both public and private industries to learn about potential open source software solutions and demonstrate emerging technologies.  The growing popularity of the event is indicative of the rising demand in Latin America for accessible and affordable technologies to facilitate cooperation and transparency between governments, NGOs, and the public.

Mr. Roldan extends thanks to Rafael Soto from the Brazilian OSGeo Chapter and Dirceu de Menezes Machado Junior from the Itaipu government for the invitation, and a special mention to Jody Garnett of LISAsoft for his support.
