OpenGeo’s Ken Bossung to Present This Evening at the WebMapSocial Meetup on “Geo In the Cloud”

Mr. Bossung Discusses GeoNode, OpenGeo's New Web-based Tool for Collaborative SDIs, and Its Cloud Deployment

November 16, 2010 -- Ken Bossung, Senior Vice President at OpenGeo, will speak this evening at the WebMapSocial Meetup in Silicon Valley.  The topic for this month's event is Geo in the Cloud, and Mr. Bossung's presentation will focus on GeoNode, OpenGeo's latest open source platform for cloud-supported spatial-data collaboration and Cloud deployments.

GeoNode applies Web 2.0 technologies to support the principles and functionality of conventional spatial data infrastructures — interoperability,  data access, metadata integrity, and processing services.  The platform is comprised of flexible open source software components including GeoServer, GeoNetwork, Django, and GeoExt.   This stack enables users to publish, discover, evaluate, and utilize spatial data through the web while maintaining OGC standards and ISO compliance.  GeoNode also includes web cartography tools to compose, style, and publish maps in a range of formats, ensuring that data can be explored, shared, and repurposed. Furthermore, a system of user accounts and profiles allows organizations and communities to facilitate discussions, identify reliable contributors, and encourage collaborative participation.

With GeoNode 1.0 due to be released in the next several weeks, Mr. Bossung will describe the software's existing functionality and discuss the project's development roadmap.  Two additional guests, from TAPTIN and Urban Mapping, will also be speaking, so the event should prove valuable to anyone interested in developing or using web-based geospatial applications.
