Industry Leader Joins Esri as New Public Works Manager

Redlands, California—June 20, 2011—David Totman, former asset manager at Colorado Springs Utilities, joins Esri as the new industry solutions manager for public works. Totman replaces Chuck Cmeyla, who is retiring.

Employed in a variety of positions using GIS to solve analytic problems during the past 24 years, Totman brings a wealth of private- and public-sector experience to his new position.

"I'm a longtime user of Esri software, eager to apply my experience to Esri's public works initiatives," says Totman. "I look forward to meeting our users and showcasing Esri technologies and how they may be integrated into public works business processes."

Because public works departments are often early adopters of GIS, Totman believes they are well positioned to leverage an investment in the technology into other areas including

  • Performance management
  • Failure analysis
  • Workflow optimization
  • Mobile field input

Totman holds a BSE in geological engineering from Arizona State University, where he also did postgraduate studies for an MSE in civil engineering.

"We welcome David to our government team here on the Esri campus," says Chris Thomas, Esri state and local government solutions manager. "With his broad experience in GIS implementation in local government, I'm sure he will provide unique insight into the issues that are confronting public works officials and how those issues may be resolved."
