September 12, 2012 -- InterSpec Inc., the industry leading provider of BIM integrated construction specification software and services, has integrated their e-SPECS BIM applications with the government's SpecsIntact application for managing the preparation of Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) required on Department of Defense and NASA construction projects. This integration will provide users of SpecsIntact the same convenient integrations to the BIM models as with our standard commercial masters specifications.
InterSpec’s patented e-SPECS software solutions automate the preparation of construction specifications and selection of products and materials that are incorporated into commercial and public construction projects. InterSpec’s e-SPECS products are used by thousands of architects, engineers and construction professionals to help them keep their construction models, drawings and specifications in sync while reducing the overall cost of development. SpecsIntact is an automated system for preparing standardized facility construction specifications used worldwide by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
With this integration of e-SPECS with the SpecsIntact software, InterSpec is enabling true BIM-linked specifications on DoD construction projects for the first time. Users of e-SPECS with the SpecsIntact interface will be able to automate the preparation of projects specifications. Model integration, automation and reconciliation reporting functions available in e-SPECS work with SpecsIntact while all the post processing, quality assurance, submittal registry reporting and features of SpecsIntact remain available to the users.
“This is an exciting development for our team here at InterSpec, and something our customers have been asking us to do”, says Gilles Letourneau, InterSpec CTO. "With our e-SPECS to SpecsIntact interface, we are able to automate the preparation of project specifications requiring SpecsIntact on government projects just as we do with MasterSpec and our other built-in masters guide specification for commercial projects. We can now ensure that the building models and the SpecsIntact project specifications remain in sync while making the specification information available for further downstream processing as may be required with the SpecsIntact application. It really is the best of both worlds."
InterSpec anticipates a full customer release next quarter. In the meantime, it has released an internal version of the application for use by the InterSpec Specification Services Group which develop projects specifications manuals for architects and engineers across the country.
George Libby, Director of InterSpec's Specification Services explains “InterSpec Specification Services Group has been preparing SpecsIntact specification manuals for customers for many years now. With the ability to integrate to the Building Information Model that this new integration to e-SPECS provides, we increase the value of our delivery to our customers and their clients. And since this interface makes our team more efficient, we can pass on those savings to our customers in the form of reduced prices and better turnaround time."
