IDT RapidIO® 20 Gbps Interconnect Provides Breakthrough Performance in Data Center Products Based on New RTA Standard Specification

IDT Serial RapidIO Switches Provide 100ns Latency, Energy Efficiency, and Multi-processor Scalability for Data Center and Supercomputing Analytics Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 27, 2014 — Integrated Device Technology, Inc. ( IDT®) (NASDAQ: IDTI), the Analog and Digital Company™ delivering essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced that its 20 Gbps RapidIO interconnect devices are used in Prodrive Technology’s motherboards based on the RapidIO Trade Association’s (RTA’s) data center standard specification that was released in the fourth-quarter of 2013. IDT’s RapidIO switch products offer 100 ns latency, energy efficiency, and multi-processor scalability – providing breakthrough performance in data center and supercomputing analytics applications.

IDT’s 20 Gbps per port RapidIO switches and bridges serve as the on-board and inter-board interconnect for Data Center Compute and Networking (DCCN) motherboards developed by Prodrive. The RTA-compliant motherboards come in a 19-inch form factor with up to four computing daughtercards, supporting a variety of processing nodes from x86, to ARM®, DSP, FPGA and PowerPC. Using the DCCN motherboard, OEMs, data center operators, supercomputing centers, and financial trading organizations can develop high-throughput, low-latency computing systems ideal for high performance analytics applications. The DCCN platform will be submitted by the RTA to industry organizations such as the Open Compute Project (OCP) in the first half of 2014.

“The RapidIO Trade Association embarked on creating infrastructure to bring the benefits of embedded systems computing to data center applications six months ago,” said Jag Bolaria, Senior Analyst at the Linley Group. “In the data center and supercomputing industry, we see demand for high-performance analytics involving real-time, latency-sensitive computations. IDT and Prodrive have delivered a platform that makes it easy for users in these markets to build entire systems with RapidIO, and benefit from a variety of processing options, including x86, ARM, DSP, FPGA and PowerPC.”

“In fewer than six months, we were able to go from an initial concept to fully-functional DCCN hardware deliveries,” said Pieter Janssen, CEO of Prodrive Technologies. “Working closely with the RTA and IDT, we leveraged our expertise in RapidIO, data center designs, and manufacturing to deliver this turnkey solution poised to transform the computing industry.”

“With over 30 million RapidIO switch ports shipped to date, RapidIO is a proven solution that addresses multi-processor, peer-to-peer processing needs required of high performance analytics in supercomputing and data center applications,” said Sean Fan, vice president and general manager of the Interface and Connectivity Division at IDT. “We work with our partners to deliver solutions that allow our end customers and industry organizations, such as the OCP, to rapidly develop large, high-performance systems that seamlessly integrate with existing data center infrastructure.”

IDT's RapidIO switches offer 20 Gbps of bandwidth per link, 100 ns cut-through latency, robust fault tolerance and hot-swap support, built-in reliable transmission, and non-blocking switch performance. Energy-efficient system designs can take advantage of RapidIO’s 300 mW per 10 Gbps of data — the highest power to performance ratio compared to other interconnects. In addition, IDT’s RapidIO-to-PCIe® bridge provides connectivity to the PCIe-based network interface controller’s functionality, while consuming only 2 Watts at 20 Gbps. This allows for high-density solutions within the DCCN platform using x86-based daughtercards. RTA-compliant systems can be scaled up to 64K nodes with RapidIO 20 Gbps interconnection between DCCN motherboards. They can also be aggregated with 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfacing to many commercially-available Ethernet top-of rack-switches.

IDT will present information on the DCCN motherboard at the Linley Group Data Center Conference on Feb 5-6 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Santa Clara, CA.
