The OGC seeks comments on charter for PipelineML Working Group

16 May 2014 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks comments on the charter for a new OGC PipelineML Standards Working Group (DWG). The charter is available at https://portal.opengeospatial.org/files/?artifact_id=58845&version=2. The comment period is open until June 15, 2014.

The purpose of the PipelineML SWG is to develop an open extensible standard intended to enable the interchange of pipeline data between parties, disparate systems and software applications without loss of accuracy, density or data resolution and without need for conversion between intermediate or proprietary formats.

The initial membership of the PipelineML SWG will consist of the following OGC member representatives, who have extensive education and experience in oil and gas pipeline issues:

The initiators encourage comments on the charter and invite participation in the OGC PipelineML Standards Working Group. You may send comments to Email Contact.

In November 2013 the OGC and the PODS Association, Inc. (“PODS”) agreed to work together to identify enhancement opportunities between the advanced geospatial interoperability concepts developed within the OGC's consensus standards process and the PODS Association's widely used PODS standard and data model. The PipelineML SWG is a result of this cooperation.

The OGC® is an international consortium of more than 475 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. Visit the OGC website at  http://www.opengeospatial.org/.
