Manufacturing Re-Engineered and Rediscovered : National Manufacturing Month October 2014

OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- Sep 22, 2014 -- Not just unlocking a world of opportunity, but opening doors to the public is the purpose of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters' National Manufacturing Month, being held across Canada this October.

"We are celebrating Canada's largest business sector," said Jayson Myers, president & CEO of CME. "The perception of manufacturing today is out of touch with reality. We need to change that."

And that begins with education.

"Seeing is believing," he added. "That's why we are encouraging companies from coast to coast to open up their doors and show that manufacturing is no longer our grandfather's industry. It is high tech, high value, high paying and highly skilled as well as the economic engine of Canada."

The month-long campaign will kick off with the release of the results of CME's exclusive Management Issues Survey, October 7 in Ottawa during the organization's Lobby Day on Parliament Hill."

Early results indicate that Canadian manufacturers are very optimistic about the business conditions over the next three years with the majority planning to hire more people; invest in machinery and equipment as well as research and development while expecting sales to outpace the levels recorded in the past three," Myers said. "These are great reasons why we need to celebrate and showcase both the innovation and creativity that make Canadian manufacturing a global force."

Companies from coast to coast will be hosting tours of their facilities throughout the month and students will be showcasing their own manufacturing talents through a video contest, Made by Canada - Why manufacturing is cool.
